Dear Porky,
we had a splendid evening in Croydon with Friedel, Mike and Sebastian. It was a very happy evening with Thai take away and red wine (the 2 Croydon adults abstaining) till him and her went out to the 'office', you know what I mean, when she slipped and landed on the deck supporting herself on her right hand. Kapow!!! The next morning they left to the local hospital to make sure it was just bruising and general swelling. X-rays revealed a minor chip of a bone next to the plate which was placed there after she broke her wrist a decade or so ago. Easily fixed: half cast and bandages, that'll do for 3 months, great f.....g news. However a ct scan was scheduled and apparently revealed much worse. From chip bone to complete replacement of the plate it could be possibly done on the same day.'You have private health insurance, don't you?! You have to stay in the area for 2weeks to see whether the wound has healed, a full plaster will be applied and then come back in 6 weeks for another X-ray. You know: your age, smoker and wine drinker, it will not heal or you may get arthritis there.'
The machinery was started up with scheduled blood test, admittance to ward, transfer to private hospital next door ... This was the moment she did a runner, 'life is all about taking small risks' she said and we were back on schedule.
The following evening was even more wine and food filled while catching up with Stephen and Jo and their friend Insook and her son Liam. Plans were made to catch up properly after our return.
The following morning at about 5:30 we left Sunshine West and were finally on the road. He had to drive the whole stretch which must be draining even she and I entertained him as good as we could. Our next overnight stop was planned for Parham a free camp site at a beach we had stayed last time. Parham is appr. 80km north of Adelaide.
Since then it had changed, we were the only ones beside 2 lunatics in a tent next to us, this time it was packed with camper trailers and portable generators humming. It was ok though and the sunset had not changed. Early night and fresh start at 3:45am direction Alice Springs.
