Ellenbrae to Manning Gorge

Dear Porky,

After leaving Elllenbrae we continued on Gibb River Road toward Manning Gorge near Mt. Barnett. We rattled along the corrugation, flood ways, dips an crests. In between one mudguard above the rear wheel came loose and HE took it off completely to store it above a spare tyre to be fixed on again when HE comes home. We saw a few damaged cars, mainly rental cars which met frolicking cows on the road. VW must have struck a deal with Britz car rentals, because almost every second car on this road was an Amorak, equipped with kitchen, water storage and gas cylinders and roof rack. Manning Gorge was spectacular unfortunately we had no opportunity taking photos with the ipad as there was no electricity to charge it. HE took photos with the camera so you'll see later how they paddled across the river in a dinghy with overhead ropes to pull themselves across. This gorge has an enormous waterfall with a huge swimming hole, it takes a little rock climbing up and down for about an hour, it was certainly worth it. Came night time almost every camp site had a little fire going, which seem to be the case on every rest area we stayed. It looks very peaceful with red/orange dots scattered around in the darkness and a scent of sandalwood in the air, because this is the firewood which ls found here everywhere. In addition it does not smoke like our Tassie gum.

Well Porky, this is it for now. Lots of love

Petunia
